Each batting side has to take responsibility for scoring their innings; this means members of the playing XI have to be able to score. Scoring has to be conducted on paper and using the Japan Cricket or CricClubs app. The resources on this page should help you prepare.

Before Match Day the team should ensure:
- At least one person will bring the appropriate scoring sheet (see below) & pens.
- Someone has one of the clubs admin log-in details for the Japan Cricket or CricClubs app & a battery pack.

Before the Match starts:
- The paper scorer(s) should be designated – it is recommended that the most experienced scorer does paper scoring and less experienced scorers do online (app) scoring.
- The playing XI should be selected in the scoring app.

Tips for scoring
- The 2 scorers should sit together and communicate – confirm the total at the end of each over and ideally confirm each shot.
- It is easy to get distracted – do not speak to people while scoring.
- Always clearly acknowledge all the umpires signals.
- Wait until the ball is dead before writing / entering the score – overthrows, late umpire signals and other things can and do happen.
- If there is an issue scoring, especially in the app, put all focus on recording all shots on paper – you can then catch up / correct your issues during the breaks in overs. If both scorers start losing track of the game, you are in trouble. In the worst case signal to the umpire to pause play while you fix the situation.
