Playing for the Chiba Sharks is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend your weekend. The better prepared we are as players, the higher the chance our squad will perform well, win and make the weekend all that better; our performance may even get a mention in that month`s monthly roundup! Here we will explain what is expected of players before, during and after each game so you can prepare to be a part of a winning XI.
At least 1 week before match day
- Using the Stack Team App (iPhone / Android), you should register your availability for the match. Ideally you will have indicated your availability for all matches at the start of the season, however you can update / add your availability until the Monday of the week before the match.
- If you are scheduled to perform Sharks umpiring duty on the day of the match, you cannot play – umpiring duty always takes priority.
On the Wednesday before the match
- You will be notified of the team selection in the Stack Team App. You may also be asked if you are willing to perform the function of 12th player. If you agree to be a 12th player, although you may not get a chance to play, you will be guaranteed a spot in an upcoming game (in a squad that matches your capability).
No later than the day before the match
- The team manager will send details of the meeting arrangements and start time. Typically the Sharks meet at a station close to the ground, with those driving providing lifts for those who caught the train. Players will communicate in the Sharks Line channel or 1:1 to arrange pickups from the meeting point.
Match day
- Players should make their own way to the meeting point, and should try to arrive slightly before the designated time. From here they will travel to the ground, where they may be required to setup before warmups and other preparations.
- In cases where there is an issue with the ground (common examples in 2024 have been standing water and grass cuttings), the players are expected to show the ‘spirit of the Sharks’ and help mop, rake or otherwise help fix the issue even if the Sharks is not the team designated to setup the ground. It is important to do whatever we can to start on time, so the innings length does not get reduced.
- During the match players are expected to behave well and courteously to their team mates, opponents and the umpires. Sledging is allowed, but it should not be offensive or aggressive. Remember that the umpires decision is always final.
- 2 players from the batting side will manage the scoring at all times.
- After the match, the players should line up behind the captain to shake the hands of the other team and the match officials.
- When preparing to leave all rubbish should be taken with you and the equipment packed in the groundside storage neatly and in a way it will not get damaged. The Sharks should pride themselves on leaving grounds as good, or better, than they found them.
After the game
- Review your teams position, check the scorecard for your game or look at your personal stats in the JCA App (Android or iPhone).
- If you took any interesting photos of the match, or have some interesting anecdotes or stories, share them with the Sharks webmaster so they can include them in the Monthly Roundups.
