Pitch Report: YCAC use a Flicx pitch rolled out onto a rubberised artificial turf and there is some real grass around the edges of the boundary. The Flicx pitch is not pinned down and the ends can sometimes lift as the bowler runs onto it. The ground is considered to have good drainage so it can be played on even if it rains the day before but if damp, the outfield gets stickier and slower. During a dry spell the outfield is quick and you get good value for good shots. The bounce is constant and the ball tends to stay quite low, even when bowled short, so YCAC regulars look to get on the front foot at any opportunity. There is some turn for the spinners but not a great amount and the occasional ball will skid through. Big hitters need to take care as any 6 that clears the roadside fence or the swimming pool fence is automatically given out. All in all, it’s a batters pitch and scores of 250+ are considered par. Facilities: YC&AC is a private members club with drinks (including licensed bar), food, changing rooms, showers and toilets. It is the most civilized cricket venue in Japan. They have a website with more details including access by car at http://www.ycac.or.jp/. Other supplies can be purchased from the convenience store opposite the station exit. Hospitality at YC&AC is unsurpassed. They provide drinking water throughout the game and slightly stronger stuff afterwards. Win or lose, playing at YC&AC is is inevitably a pleasure.
