Pitch Report: The Ageo pitch is a ‘Flicx Pitch’: plastic interlocking tiles that are rolled out, and then bolted to the ground to form a playing surface. The ground on which the Flicx pitch is laid is hard, creating a consistent playing surface. With the new ball, bowlers at Ageo can expect to get good bounce and carry, as well as exaggerated seam movement. In the early stages of an innings there are often many edges behind the stumps. As the ball becomes older, it has a tendency to skid through. Wrist spinners can expect generous turn, however the ball can skid-on more than one would like. Experienced batsmen at Ageo tend to play the ball late, as the ball is often not as quick as it appears, and tends to stay low. The outfield at Ageo is short, grassless and extremely fast, surrounded by many natural obstacles. Ageo has been a batsman’s paradise over the years, as well as a help to fast bowlers, making it a dynamic place to play cricket. [Alexis]
